India is the kind of travel that changes how you think about travel. The scale, the noise, the colour, the food, the history — all of it operates at an intensity that most destinations don't match. The Golden Triangle (Delhi, Agra, Jaipur) gives a manageable introduction: Mughal architecture, the chaos of Old Delhi, the Taj Mahal at dawn. But India extends far beyond that circuit.
Kerala's backwaters and Goa's beaches offer a slower India. Rajasthan's forts and palaces are extraordinary. Mumbai is one of the world's great cities. The subcontinent is too large for a single trip to do justice to.
India is best visited between October and March, when temperatures are cooler and the monsoon has cleared. Summers — particularly May and June — are genuinely brutal in the north. For Australians, the INR is favourable and costs are low outside the premium tourist circuit. Budget extra time for travel days: India is large, and distances are deceptive on a map.
