Singapore is one of the world's great city-states — compact, efficient, and genuinely surprising. The food scene is the main event: hawker centres serving laksa, chicken rice, char kway teow, and chilli crab at prices that seem absurd for the quality. Gardens by the Bay and the Marina Bay skyline have become modern icons, but the older districts — Chinatown, Little India, Kampong Glam — still have real character.
Singapore also works well as a base. The airport is one of the world's best transit hubs, and the city is genuinely comfortable — clean, walkable in parts, and safe at any hour.
