The Petronas Towers are as impressive in person as in photographs, but the real draw is the food, which reflects the country's Malay, Chinese, and Indian heritage in one of Asia's most diverse food cultures. Beyond KL: the islands of Langkawi and Perhentian, the colonial hill stations of the Cameron Highlands, and the ancient rainforests of Borneo.
Borneo in particular is extraordinary: orangutans, pygmy elephants, hornbills, and some of the oldest rainforest on the planet. It's often skipped in favour of Bali. That's a mistake.
