France is the most visited country in the world, and Paris is a big part of why — but it would be a mistake to see only Paris. The Loire Valley's châteaux, the lavender fields of Provence, the Riviera coastline from Nice to Monaco, and Bordeaux's wine country all represent the France that the French actually live in. Paris, though, is still one of the great cities — where the quality of the everyday, from the croissants to the parks, is simply very high.
The food and wine culture underpins everything. Even a roadside stop in rural France often beats a restaurant meal most other places.
France is a long haul — roughly 23 hours with a stopover. The EUR is strong, and Paris is expensive. Summer (July to August) is peak season; the shoulder months of April to June and September to October offer better prices and cooler weather. July and August in Paris can feel uncomfortably hot in a city that doesn't air-condition well.
